Getting Started in Aniimo
A Pathfinder’s first hours on Idyll — courses, companions, catching, and what to ignore until the tutorial pays you.
Aniimo throws a lot at you in the first session: a Pathfinder identity, a talking companion, an Aniipod, a Twine prompt, and an open continent that looks safe until an Alpha does not. This page is the launch-week order of operations. The game itself still launches 16 September 2026 on PC and consoles (mobile on the 23rd), so treat UI labels as closed-beta language that might move one menu over.
If you only remember three rules: finish New Player Courses, pick Helion or Lunara on purpose, and do not evolve every duplicate. Everything else is texture.
Hour zero: install, account, mail
- Confirm you actually meet system requirements. CBT minimums were already steep for a colourful creature game (GTX 1060-class, 12 GB RAM, ~45 GB on PC).
- Create / link the account you used to pre-register so wishlist and milestone gifts can find you.
- After character create, open mail before you run into the grass. Beta gifts never used a public code box; they used the mailbox. Keep how to redeem nearby for launch.
- Glance at PC controls if you are on keyboard: WASD, right-click catch mode, C to Twine, 1–4 to swap.
New Player Courses are not optional flavour
The Global CBT hid a surprising amount of the real game inside Courses that pay you to complete them: Basics, Twining, Combat, elemental counters, spatial counters, fire/water/ice/lightning interactions, Snap photography, and the advanced catch tumbler. Skipping them to “get to the open world” is how people miss:
- That catch mode is a stance your party can enter, not only a pod throw.
- That elemental counter hits both HP and Break.
- That Snap pictures are research, not a photo mode toy.
- That some puzzles are solved by Twining a specific element into a node, not by attacking it.
Watch the courses video on this page, then do them in-game. The how to Twine and how to catch guides exist for the details the course rushes past.
Your first Aniimo and the story pair
The grass almost always offers an Emberpup. Catch it. It teaches Fire, DPS, and the three-stage line into Flameruff and Scorchhowl. It is not a mistake to keep. It is a mistake to build a four-Fire team around it. Read the creature hub and elements before you spend rare pods on a second Fire DPS.
Helion (radiant lion) and Lunara (moon fox, evolving toward Fennelun in index dumps) are the talking companions who demonstrate Twine as a story beat. The choice is sticky. Compare them on starters before you mash confirm. You can still catch a wide roster afterward; you cannot replay the cutscene easily.
First-hour catching loop
- Approach from behind when the tutorial allows it.
- Right-click catch mode, left-click throw. Higher-tier Aniipods exist; save them for high-level, Sparkling, or story-gated targets. Details: how to catch.
- Put the active Aniimo into catch stance when you are specifically trying to capture, not kill.
- Photograph behaviours when the journal asks. It is free Aniilog progress.
You do not need a full tier list in hour one. You need one Heal or Regen (Skippy’s line is the usual gift from the water biome) before you pick a fight with a named Alpha.
Combat without the MOBA headache
Combat is real-time. Left-click commands an attack if you are in Pathfinder form; while Twined you are the attacker. Dodge with Shift, skills on Q/E/R, mobility on T, lock-on on Tab (beta defaults). Swap with 1–4. The combat guide is the long version. The short version: Break the bar, then DPS, and keep a Heal.
If a fight feels unfair, check the type chart before you blame lag. Earth and Water punish Dark greed. Fire that walked over Ice will fold to Water.
Homeland is part of the tutorial, not post-game
When the game hands you an RV / Homeland, go there. Facilities generate the boring materials that evolutions eat. Parking extras in Homeland is smarter than releasing everything for a handful of gems. Walkthrough: Homeland.
Launch-week mistakes to skip
- Buying a “starter code pack” from a reseller. There are no public codes yet.
- Ignoring co-op tools. Aniimo is built for online co-op and calling help with social items shown in previews.
- Spending Prismatic pods on meadow commons.
- Evolving the only copy of a line before you know if a branch exists (Pebbling is the warning poster).
- Assuming CBT progress is waiting on the server. It was a wipe. See beta recap.
When the first-hour fog clears, build a real four-slot party with the team builder and only then min-max using the PvE tier list. Idyll is large; the Institute will wait.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Pathfinders search for before launch.
What should I do first in Aniimo?
Link your account, claim mailbox gifts, finish New Player Courses, then catch a Heal before you hunt Alphas. Follow the order on this page.
Should I pick Helion or Lunara?
Both teach Twine. Pick the fantasy you want to inhabit, then read starters for the combat difference. You will catch many other Aniimo either way.
Is the Emberpup starter bad?
No. It is a clean Fire DPS teacher. It becomes a problem only if every slot is Fire. Mix elements using the type chart.
Will my closed-beta account carry over?
No. Global CBT was a data-wipe test. Launch is a fresh start on 16 September 2026 for PC and consoles.
