How to Catch Aniimo

Catching is a stance plus a throw, not a cutscene you skip. Wild Aniimo on Idyll notice you, flee, fight, or sparkle. Your job is to approach from behind when the tutorial allows it, put the party in catch stance instead of kill, and spend the right Aniipod. The PC beta bound catch mode to right click and the throw / attack to left click. Those binds can move at launch; the grammar should not.

This page assumes you already have a Pathfinder from Getting Started and know that C inhabits a companion (how to Twine). Catching a body and wearing a body are different verbs. Mixing them is how people Twine a DPS in attack mode and funeral the Sparkling.

Aniipods are ammunition, not flavour

Aniipods are the capture tool. Closed-beta shops and patch notes named several tiers, including standard Aniipod, Aniipod Pro, Aniipod Mega, Aniipod Ultra, Aniipod Hyper, and Aniipod Trace as a material-like drop. Tumblers are the group-catch gadget — January notes even raised their capture multiplier in dense spawns and warned you to keep 10 free storage slots or the toss is blocked.

Ctrl cycled the active pod in the PC client. Look at the icon before you throw. A meadow Emberpup does not deserve the Ultra you got from pre-register. Save high tiers for:

• High-level or named targets
• Sparkling sheen (the ultra-rare colour testers hunted on purpose)
• Story-gated or Alpha-adjacent catches where a breakout wastes a five-minute setup
• Prismana / Prismatic-quality throws when the UI is literally asking for them

Do not waste Prismatic pods on daylight commons. That is the most expensive beginner habit in the beta. If the Aniilog still has a hole for a Lumin Fire pup, a standard pod plus a rear approach is the whole plan.

We are not printing fake catch-rate percentages. Pawprint has not published a public formula. What testers felt: behind the target, weakened HP, matching element pressure, and a better pod all help. Face-tanking an Alpha in kill mode and then tossing a grey pod does not.

Catch stance versus kill

K cycled Catch / Defensive / Attack behaviour for the party in the beta. Catch stance tells your four field slots to play for a capture instead of a corpse. Attack stance is how you farm Break and HP when you actually want the chest, not the Aniilog tick.

Practical split:

• Catch — Sparkling, new Aniilog numbers, evolution-branch dupes you still need, anything you photographed and then decided to keep.
• Attack — Alphas you have already cloned, overcrowded meadows, and fights where a catch would steal the kill your combat rotation needs.
• Defensive — learning a new kit, escorting a low Heal, or buying time for a friend in four-player online co-op.

If a wild Aniimo dies, that is a failed catch, not a secret third outcome. Swap K before the first skill, not after the HP bar vanishes.

Approach, weaken, throw

1. Spot the target. Crouch your camera; many species telegraph with head turns or eye glints.
2. Approach from behind. Frontals start combats you did not budget pods for.
3. Weaken if it is strong. Break pressure and elemental counters (see the creature hub and type matchups) drop the struggle without deleting the HP bar.
4. Right-click catch mode, left-click throw. Lead the sprint. Flying targets need a Twine flyer more than they need a heroic jump.
5. If it pops out, do not panic-dump your last Prismatic. Re-approach or swap pod tier once.

Alphas and Omegas are boss-shaped. Some are catchable in tests, some are loot piñatas. Read the encounter prompt. A named world threat that drops a chest is not always an Aniilog entry.

Sparkling hunts

Sparkling Aniimo are the rare sheen. Beta events even ran “Sparkling Surge” windows that boosted spawns near cultivated Branches. Launch will have its own events (the official site already teases Sparkling Cubes as a login/event item). Rules of thumb that survived every test:

• Carry Ultras before you see the sparkle. Running to a shop is how it despawns.
• Photograph first if the journal is hungry; a Snap is free research even if the catch fails.
• Do not Twine a hyper DPS in attack mode “just to tag it.” Tagging can kill.
• Co-op helps with eyes, not with ownership. Four Pathfinders can still argue over one sparkle. Decide who throws.

Sparkling is not the same as Prismana form, Alpha, or a weather/biome variant. The evolutions page is about stages (Lumin / Gamma / Nova) and branches. Sparkling is a rarity coat on top.

Photography and research are part of catching

Z is Snap, F8 was Quick Snap on PC. New Player Courses pay you to take pictures. The Aniilog is a field journal: behaviour shots, form surveys, and “take the silhouette photo” tasks all count as research, not as a photo-mode toy. Completing an entry is not the same as winning a fight, and it often yields traces, EXP gems, or accessories without spending a pod.

If a Course asks you to photograph a behaviour, do that before you throw. A caught Aniimo that you never researched is a hole you will backtrack for.

Inventory, extras, and why you still go home

Catching into a full backpack is how Tumblers get blocked and how extras get released for a handful of gems. Park duplicates in Homeland so they work facilities instead of occupying a field slot. Evolve on purpose (evolutions), not because the Lumin form filled the last square.

There are still no live codes that print free Ultras — check codes if someone in chat claims otherwise. Pre-register Ultra counts are a launch mailbox gift, not a CBT leftover. Global CBT was a wipe. Launch catching on 16 September 2026 (mobile 23 September) starts with whatever mail you actually claim and whatever pods the tutorial hands you.

Throw less, throw better, photograph more. Idyll’s index is already ~94 named CBT creatures with 200+ claimed for launch. You do not need to empty a Prismatic stack on day one to fill it.
