Aniimo Helion vs Lunara

The talking Light companions are a story fork, a combat stance, and a Twine lesson — pick on purpose.

Helion vs Lunara Starters

Aniimo does not hand you a classic three-starter triangle in the grass. Your first wild catch is usually an Emberpup. The choice that actually sticks is later, in a story beat: two talking Light companions, Helion the radiant lion and Lunara the moon fox, and you only walk away with one. The other goes to your rival Nico. Testers described the decision as sticky — you are not swapping lions in a menu ten minutes later.

Both are Light DPS story Aniimo, not wild-catch commons. Community dumps park them on special index slots (Helion around 9998, Lunara around 9997) because they are companions, not meadow spawns. They speak, they demonstrate Twine, and they stay in the plot. This page is the comparison. Broader names live on the creature index. The opening hour lives in Getting Started. The inhabit tutorial lives in how to Twine. Combat letters for Alphas live on the PvE tier list. Do not evolve your only extra of a wild line until you read evolutions.

The game itself still launches 16 September 2026 on PC and consoles (mobile on the 23rd). Treat skill names and trait wording as closed-beta language that can move one patch over.

Helion: melee Light, small radius, heavy hits

Helion plays like a sun-side bodyguard. Testers and preview write-ups agree on the stance even when numbers disagree:

  • Melee DPS. You want to be in the target’s face. Tight arenas, doorways, Alpha legs.
  • Small radius, high impact. Helion is not the creature you pick to paint a whole ridge. It is the creature you pick to delete the thing standing on your Heal.
  • Takes a punch. The lion fantasy is also the bulk fantasy. That does not make Helion a dedicated Breaker or Heal. Roles in Aniimo are labelled; Helion’s label is DPS.
  • Light matchups. Light beats Dark and Earth. Ice and Lightning trouble it. Light is not Lightning — if you picked Helion because you like thunder, you picked the wrong icon.

Index dumps describe a later Light melee stage (names have drifted between tests: sun-lion language such as Soleon or Blazing Sun Lion). Until launch locks the Aniilog row, plan on Helion remaining a Light melee identity, not on a secret Water fork. Story companions in CBT also tended to skip the cute extra forms wild lines get from weather.

Trait language from tests: after a short skill sequence, Helion’s next skill could swing harder or cheaper. Read that as a melee cadence, not as a licence to ignore Heal.

Lunara: ranged Light, wider paint, self-sustain

Lunara is the moon-side answer.

  • Ranged DPS. You hold space. You are happier in larger arenas than Helion is.
  • Wider area tools. Preview coverage stressed larger coverage than the lion’s compact bursts.
  • Can heal. Not a Glacy replacement. A self-sustain kit that makes long opening fights less embarrassing while you still have Skippy homework to do.
  • Same Light sheet. Dark and Earth are the hunt. Ice and Lightning are the homework. Earth and Water still exist on Idyll whether you like foxes or not.

Lunara evolves to Fennelun in index dumps. Fennelun stays a Light ranged DPS identity in those lists. Because Lunara is a one-time companion, testers did not treat her as a weather-form collector. You are choosing a story fox, not a shiny hunt.

Trait language from tests stacked a moon resource on skill casts and spent it on attacks to recover a trickle of energy and health. That is why Lunara feels safer in messy first hours. It is also why people overrate her as a full Heal and then eat an Alpha.

The choice is narrative and mechanical

You meet them after the first meadow, not before you learn to throw an Aniipod. Emberpup, Skippy, Hummin, and Celestis can already be in the grass. Catch those. Then pick the companion whose stance you want to inhabit.

  • Pick Helion if you like Twining into a brawl, guarding a Heal, and playing close. Online co-op friends will stand behind the lion.
  • Pick Lunara if you like holding a lane, painting a pack, and having a self-heal crutch while you learn dodge windows.
  • Pick the fantasy you will still enjoy at hour twenty. The combat gap is smaller than the personality gap. The gap versus not catching a Heal is enormous.

Nico receiving the other companion is the point. You will see the missing lion or fox in story beats. That is not a second starter sitting in a box. Do not expect a quiet trade to undo the cutscene. If a guide promises you can farm Helion in a bush, it is mixing wild catches with story IDs.

They are not your four-slot team

You still need a Breaker + DPS + Heal + flex spine. Helion or Lunara fill DPS, early, for free. They do not fill Break. They do not fill Glacy. They do not fly like Somniwing or detect like Eko.

A launch-week party that actually functions looks like:

  1. Helion or Lunara (Light DPS, story).
  2. Emberpup’s line toward Scorchhowl (Fire DPS) or a coverage DPS such as Stellarys / Thornblade — do not run four Light/Fire copies of the same job.
  3. Hummin toward Tuckin or Inferlupa (Break).
  4. Skippy toward Glacy (Heal), with Leafy or Turbo in flex later.

That list is the PvE lesson applied to the opening fork. Twine the companion to learn inhabit, then Twine the specialist the ridge actually asked for. How to Twine is the mechanic page; this page is only the fork.

Evolution, materials, and the only-copy rule

Story companions still eat the same growth loop as wild lines: levels, Resonance, Dew Drop crystals, Homeland materials. Because you cannot catch a second Helion in a meadow, do not treat the companion as fodder. Keep the body. Evolve it when the story and the level gate agree. Read evolutions before you dump crystals into a duplicate Emberpup and then go broke on Fennelun.

Lumin → Gamma → Nova still applies in spirit. Lunara → Fennelun is the named fox fork. Helion’s later sun-lion stage should be treated as one Light melee line until the live Aniilog prints a stable name. Community dumps disagreed with themselves across tests; this wiki would rather wait than invent a third title.

Launch-week mistakes around the fork

  • Mashing confirm because the lion roared in a trailer.
  • Restarting the opening five times to screenshot both and then burning out before Courses pay you.
  • Building a four-Light team around the companion because Light beats Dark on a loading tip.
  • Ignoring Ice and Lightning threats until a story elite is typed to punish you.
  • Assuming CBT progress, including the companion, is waiting on the server. Global CBT was a wipe. 16 September is a fresh start.

If you want a full roster tour after the cutscene, return to the creature index and catch on purpose. The companion is a partner. Idyll is still a continent.

Helion is the sun you stand under. Lunara is the moon you aim with. Nico will hold the other one whether you like it or not, so pick the stance you want to inhabit on hour one and on hour forty — then go catch a Heal before the first Alpha explains the difference.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Pathfinders search for before launch.

Are Helion and Lunara the only Aniimo starters?

They are the story companions you choose after the first meadow. Your first wild catch is usually Emberpup, and the grass can already hold Skippy, Hummin, and Celestis. Read Getting Started for the hour-one order.

Can I get both Helion and Lunara?

Not as a quiet extra catch in closed-beta flow. The one you do not pick goes to rival Nico. Treat the fork as sticky and pick the stance you want to Twine.

Who is stronger for Alphas?

Both are Light DPS teachers. Helion wants melee range; Lunara wants space and brings self-sustain. Neither replaces Tuckin or Glacy. Use the PvE tier list for the four-slot spine.

What does Lunara evolve into?

Index dumps name **Fennelun** as Lunara's later Light ranged stage. Helion's sun-lion stage has used shifting names across tests. Confirm the live Aniilog at launch, and read evolutions before spending crystals.

Should the companion stay on my team forever?

Early, yes — they teach Twine. Later, they are one DPS slot. Swap them off for a specialist when a ridge or Alpha asks for Water, Break, or flight.
